Vehicle driver in fatal collision hospitalised, faces five charges

The driver of a car that slammed into bystanders at a political meeting on December 6, is currently warded at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) where he is being treated for high blood pressure.

Antwone Quincy Anthony, 39, CD vendor of Questelles, was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but did not appear, as he fell ill {{more}}and had to be admitted to hospital.

Yesterday, SEARCHLIGHT was reliably informed that Anthony’s blood pressure was at 220/160.

When he is released however, he will be required to answer to the charge of causing the death of Edgar Cruickshank of Questelles, by driving motor vehicle P7516 dangerously, at Clare Valley.

Cruickshank, 78, sustained multiple injuries about his body and died susbequently at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

At the time of the incident, the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) was having a political meeting in the area.

Anthony’s son, Antwone Anthony Jr, who was an occupant of the car in question, was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and released the following day.

Anthony also has to answer to four other charges: using an uninsured motor vehicle; using an unlicensed motor vehicle; failure to renew his driving permit on his birth date and fraudulently using the identification mark P7516.

SEARCHLIGHT was reliably informed that the registration number P7516 belongs to another vehicle owned by Anthony. The correct registration number of the crashed vehicle is P119.

When contacted, head of the traffic department, Superintendent Kenneth John said he is paying close attention to the investigation and is satisfied with the way the matter is progressing.

“I am really satisfied with the direction this investigation is going. We have already interviewed several persons who were at the meeting and investigations are continuing,” John said.

Anthony is currently under police watch at the hospital.
