Slater traduced on social media, attacked at home
Acting head of the Agency for Public Information (API) Nadia Slater, who was beaten at her home during a period where she was being traduced on social media by people, some of whom identified as supporters of the New Democratic Party (NDP) has been discharged from hospital.
In the wee hours of May 5, Slater was at her Clare Valley home with her 72-year-old aunt Jean Slater, when an intruder gained entry into her house, reportedly through a bathroom window.
Reports are that the attacker used a gas bottle to inflict serious injuries to the two women, the older, up to press time, was still warded in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).
During the time she was beaten, Slater was the topic of discussion on social media and radio talk shows after she mistakenly sent an email to a media group in which she referred to Leader of the Opposition Dr. Ralph Gonsalves as Prime Minister.
In an apparent haste to correct the error, Slater sent a second email asking for the first email to be disregarded but she mistakenly wrote, “The Agency sincerely apologises for the typing error in the previous email and wishes to indicate that it was a genuine error with malicious intent.”
She then sent a third email clearing up the issue, stating, “We sincerely apologise for this mistake. The error was purely inadvertent and resulted from an administrative oversight during the preparation of the correspondence. There was NO disrespect, political motive, or malicious intent whatsoever.”
