Shne Joachim medals five in a row at Carifta Swim Championships

Shne Joachim is easily the most decorated national swimmer thus far for St Vincent and the Grenadines.

And, when she added a bronze medal recently at the Carifta Swimming Championships, it was her fifth straight year of standing on the podium.

Joachim claimed a bronze medal in the 15-17 age group of the women’s 50m breastroke at the 32nd staging of championships, held the Betty Kelly-Kenning Aquatic Centre in The Bahamas over the Easter weekend.

Joachim clocked 34.40 seconds to end in position No. 3.

She, however, was not able to hold her form in the 100m breaststroke, as her one minute 19.75 seconds, could only put her in fifth place.

Shne was the brightest spark for the Vincentian contingent, which also included Mya De Freitas, Aron De Freitas, Alex Joachim, Bryson George and Nikolas Sylvester.

Shne’s first Carifta swim medal was a bronze in the 2013 championships, held in Jamaica, in the 50m breaststroke for the 11 to 12 age group.

Another bronze was attained one year later in the 13 to 14 age group, in the 100m breaststroke, when the championships were staged in Aruba.

Her high point came in 2015 in Barbados, when she attained two silver medals in the 50m and 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m butterfly.

At that same championships, she established a Carifta record in the 50m breaststroke, in a time of 34.39 seconds.

When Shne Joachim entered the 15 to 17 age group in 2016, she won bronze in the 50m breaststroke at the championships staged in Martinique.

The 2018 championships are set for Jamaica.
