Former Miss SVG Aviar Charles shares inspiring journey in pursuit of higher education
Former Miss St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Aviar Charles recently reflected on her journey to the crown while encouraging the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union (SVGTCCU) scholarship recipients to make the most of their educational opportunities.
During the annual award ceremony held on August 11, 2026, at the credit union’s Kingstown Headquarters, a total of nine scholarships were awarded to students who were successful in the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA), and four persons received university bursaries.
Charles, the featured speaker at the ceremony, recounted applying for a scholarship to pursue studies in Taiwan back in 2010.
“Like many young people with big dreams, I submitted my application with hope,” Charles said. “I imagined what receiving this scholarship could mean for my family, my education, and my future.”
However, due to delays in submitting her transcripts, her application was unsuccessful.
“I was disappointed,” Charles admitted. “At that stage, I could have easily interpreted that rejection as the end of the road. But sometimes, what appears to be the end of an opportunity is simply life redirecting you towards another one.”
Not long after, Charles said a friend told her about the Miss SVG Pageant, explaining that the winner would receive a university scholarship.
