Harry expresses concerns with discipline in Netball
President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association Godfrey Harry has expressed his concern about indiscipline in Netball, in particular that displayed by junior players of the sport.{{more}}
Harry, speaking at the closing ceremony of the Vita Malt Secondary Schools Netball Competition, last Friday at the Kingstown Netball Centre, said: âI was rather disappointed at the end of one Quarter Final game, to hear the profanity used by a Junior player in this competitionâ.
Harry said that he believes the player was venting her anger at her teamâs loss, but her behaviour also came as a response to the coachâs comments to one of the match officials.
âWe need to stop this, as umpires are humans and can err in your favour or against you,â the Netball President advised.
Persons attending last Fridayâs finals were given firsthand experience of Harryâs observations and concerns, as there was scant respect paid to God and the state by some members of the audience.
Master of Ceremonies Earl Bennett was forced to chide some of the youngsters and young adults too, for their irreverence shown when Pastor Richard Hill was called upon to invoke Godâs blessings on the ceremony.
Bennettâs plea went unheard, as the singing of the National Anthem was met with similar dishonour, as some persons chose not to recognize its rendition.
This was done in the presence of a few Principals, as well as Deputy Chief Education Officer Beverly Neptune, who was at the head table.(RT)
