The October 22 session follows a two-day workshop for marshalls held on September 16 and 17.
That workshop, according to Steve âCapâ Ollivierre, President of the SVGAA, was facilitated by Jeverson Bovell, who functioned as Chief Marshall for the Barbados Rally Club for over 15 years.
That workshop, according to Ollivierre, dealt with issues, including duties of marshalls, flag usage and codes, crowd control, spectator positioning, positioning of emergency vehicles, timing systems and the removal of injured persons from wreckages.
This is all being done as the SVGAA seeks to further develop motor sports here, he explained.
âThe SVGAA is the umbrella organization for motor sport in St Vincent and the Grenadines and we are trying to master our game as best as we can,â Ollivierre told SEARCHLIGHT.
He further explained that the mandate of the organization he heads is to continue to promote safety.
âSo any sort of motor sport taking place, we would like to get it tweaked by giving them the proper guidelines to manage the sport properly so that we can provide entertainment for the country,â SVGAAâs president said.
It is expected that participants in the training session will become certified and that Bovell will return periodically before the process is over.
Ollivierre added that the training and certification of marshalls is to ensure that the sport is brought to a competitive level and generate revenue through sports tourism.
Training sessions will continue with the next stage being more intense, Olivierre explained. (DD)
