King continues his reign in Junior Tennis
Young and upcoming Tennis player Imani King won the Challenge Trophy for the second straight occasion in a National Junior Tennis Tournament, under the aegis of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association (SVGTA).{{more}}
The south paw styled King scooped the award last Saturday afternoon at National Tennis Centre at Villa, at the Closing and Presentation Ceremony of the 2011 Summer National Junior Tournament.
This was a repeat of a feat at the Easter Tournament held last April at the same venue.
The Challenge Trophy is the most prestigious award at Junior Tournaments, and represents outstanding play on the court, and other attributes such as helpfulness and sportsmanship off the court.
On the court, King was the winner in the Boys Under-14 and Under-16 Singles, defeating Sebastian Cyrus and Julio Francis respectively.
Others in winnerâs row were Luke Browne, who captured the Boys Under-12. Browne was also named the Most Improved Player among the Under-14âs.
Amarlia Benn took the Girls Under-12, in a battle with her twin sister Gabrielle. It was revenge for Amarlia who lost to Gabrielle in the Easter finals of that age group.
It was a similar case in the Girls Under-14, when Denee Lyttle beat Chelsea Haslam, turning the tables on their last meeting in April.
Daneya Charles secured the Girls Under-16 and Halimah Michael, the Girls Under-18. The Boys Under-18 was won by Fabrice George.
George then combined with the Most Improved Under-18 player Doug Lewis to take the Boys Under-18 Doubles, and the combination of Daneya Charles and Halimah Michael pouched the Girls Under-18 Doubles.
And, in the battle of the twins, Denee and Luka Lyttle saw off the Benn twins to hold on to the Girls Under-14 Doubles. The Lyttles also beat the Benns at the Easter outing.
Miguel Francis was considered the Most Promising Under-12 player.
The countryâs top Under-10 players will be known when the Grassroot Tennis Club Tournament concludes, as the Executive of the SVGTA has sanctioned that age grouping.
