Thank you, from the people of Mayreau!

Fri, May 11. 2012

Editor: We, the people of Mayreau, are indeed grateful to the many individuals and organizations that helped to make the 2012 Hairoun Beer Mayreau Regatta such a resounding success. First of all, our fun-filled four day event would have been nothing without the men of Bequia, Canouan, Mayreau, Union and Petit Martinique who participated in our fishing competition, lionfish derby and sailing races.{{more}} The skill you demonstrated was most impressive to visitors and Vincentians alike! A proud history lives on in you all.

To our many sponsors, who generously offered financial assistance and many other forms of support, we say, “thank you, thank you, thank you!” Though we are a tiny community, with your help we are able to show ourselves at our best to the hundreds and hundreds of visitors from St. Vincent, Grenada and other parts of the world who flocked to our shores for regatta weekend. St. Vincent Brewery, our title sponsor, continues to lead the pack, backed up by perennial supporters like the Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Karib Cable. We would like to offer a special nod to Courts – St. Vincent and the Grenadines who stepped up to support our first-ever lionfish derby. We challenge you to join us on the beach next year for a taste of this delicious fish.

The media of our country and our tourism authority helped to spread the word of our very special event and contributed to our success. To those who helped us promote this year’s regatta in advance and to those who helped recognize successful participants, we offer our thanks. Of special note was Searchlight’s Junior Jarvis who spent the entire weekend with us and pulled together comprehensive coverage.

Last but certainly not least, we owe a debt of gratitude to all those members of our Mayreau community who participated in the talent show entertaining our guests and hosted so many visitors in their homes making them feel comfortable with us.

Our little island is renowned for its hospitality and we were very proud of how that tradition was demonstrated this year.

In a brief letter, it is just simply not possible to name each and every contributor. Please know that we deeply appreciate you all and look forward to sharing next year’s regatta with you.

With your support, 2013 will be bigger and better than ever.

Claude Alexander,
President, Mayreau Regatta and Sporting Committee
