SVGCC records 100 percent passes in 16 of 23 subjects

THE St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College(SVGCC), has recorded 100 per cent passes in 16 of the 23 subjects that students sat at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations( CAPE). During the May-June 2024 CAPE sitting, there was a candidate entry of 397, of whom 384 were from the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Community College. Thirteen students were private candidates.

The SVGCC candidates sat 1447 examinations in 23 different subjects where passing grades, which ranges from Grades I to V, were obtained in 1390 subject sittings.

This ratio represents an overall pass percentage of 96.06 and shows an increased performance when compared to the 2022 results, where the overall pass rate was 95.73 per cent.

A total of 16 subjects that were sat by candidates from SVGCC, recorded 100 per cent passes for at least one of the two units at the CAPE sitting this year.

The subjects: Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Environmental Science, French, Geography, Green Engineering, Literatures in English, Physical Education and Sport, Physics, Sociology, and Spanish have all recorded 100 per cent passes in both Units 1 and 2.

The Caribbean Studies and Integrated Mathematics examination were only completed by Unit 2 students, and both recorded 100 per cent passes.

Digital Media Unit 2 saw 100 per cent passes, while 55 students of the 57 who sat the Unit 1 examination achieved a passing grade. Management of Business Unit 1 saw 100 per cent passes, while 42 of 47 students passed the Unit 2 examination.

Pure Mathematics also saw 100 per cent passes in Unit 2, but of the 37 students who sat the Unit 1 examination, only 31 achieved a passing grade. As for Accounting, 30 of 39 passed the Unit 1 examination, while 20 of 27 students who completed the Unit 2 Accounting examination, obtained a passing grade.

Four of 67 students fell below a Grade V in the Biology Unit 1 exam, while five of 67 students failed the Unit 2 exam. The school also saw four students failing the Chemistry Unit 1 examination, while three students failed the Unit 2 exam.

Communication Studies, which consists of only Unit 1, saw a total 199 sittings from students of the SVGCC. However, 194 of these obtained a passing grade.

In Economics Unit 1, 26 of 27 students passed the examination, and 23 of 24 students passed the Unit 2 examination. History also recorded one failing grade in each unit, where 17 of 18 students passed the Unit 1 examination, and 12 of 13 students passed the Unit 2 examination.

Law Unit 1 recorded 30 passing grades from a batch of 31 students who sat the examination, and 25 passes from 27 students who sat the Unit 2 examination.

This year’s results show that high pass rates have been maintained in most subjects taken.
