Pharmacist freed of wounding with licenced firearm charge
THE USE OF A LICENSED FIREARM for self defence was again ventilated before the courts when this time around, pharmacist Esworth Lewis was freed of a charge of wounding, and use of a firearm with intent to commit an offence.
This is the second licenced firearm holder to be freed of charges by the court in the last nine months, in December, 2025 popular disc jockey (DJ) Chris “2 Cool” Jones was freed of a wounding charge in connection with him shooting a man in Kingstown with his licensed firearm three times on July 4, 2024.
Lewis’s case stems from an incident on the night of October 10, 2025, where he shot Omario Pereira, 18, twice in the abdomen. Lewis, 35, was initially charged with attempted murder and was remanded to His Majesty’s Prison (HMP), but secured bail after Pereira’s medical situation had improved.
