Murder suspects back in Grenada police custody

The three men who are the main suspects of a murder investigation of a US couple are officially back in the custody of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF).

Ron Mitchell, Atiba Satinsclas and Trevon Robertson were deported from St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) on Monday and arrived in Grenada late in the evening, according to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Christopher Nelson.

Speaking in an interview with Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN), the DPP revealed that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is actively continuing the “cross jurisdiction” investigation into the escape of the men as well as the disappearance of the US couple, Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel.

The deportation order was handed down by the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on March 4, one week after the men appeared in court and all pleaded guilty to four immigration related charges. The men entered St Vincent by yacht after escaping lawful custody in Grenada on February 19 where they were being held on robbery and rape charges.

They allegedly hijacked the yacht, restrained the couple and sailed to SVG. It is believed that the couple were attacked and disposed of in the ocean.

While the yacht remains in the custody of the SVG Coast Guard, evidence gathered by the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) has been handed to Grenada investigators.

The DPP explained that the RSVGPF has no criminal jurisdiction in the matter presently, adding that the “criminal enterprise” by the trio began in Grenada with the hijacking of the yacht.

The men are expected to be back at court as early as tomorrow, Thursday March 7 for the continuation of the court proceedings.
