Winners of VINLEC Christmas Lighting competition receive prize monies

Port Elizabeth, Bequia which broke a 10 year winning National Lighting streak by Point Village, along with other groups and individuals received their winnings on Saturday, January 27 at a prize giving ceremony at the Peace Memorial Hall.

In the 2023 VINLEC Christmas Lighting competition Port Elizabeth came out of the shadows, outshining the rest of the competition to stamp their mark and take the first place trophy as well as bragging rights for the year.

Taking second place was Rose Hall, Works while the 2022 champion had to settle for third. Sion Hill, Intersection got a humble fourth place. All other winners in the various categories of the Nine Mornings Festival were rewarded at the prize giving ceremony.

Chairman of the National Nine Mornings Committee, Orande Bomani Charles said at the ceremony that persons received cheques in value ranging from EC$250-$50,000.

As plans are already on the way for Nine Mornings 2024, Charles expressed that the committee is aiming for further innovations. He added that while his committee is tasked with distributing the limited resources mainly donated by the Ministry of Tourism and the National Lotteries Authority his team has always found a way to get things done.

He said in comparison to 2022, in 2023 there was a noticeable increase in the number of communities organising their own Nine Mornings programme. Charles however, is asking for more voluntary support from Vincentians in any way they can.
