Court issues warning to young man who used father’s vehicle without permission

The Senior Magistrate has urged a young man who was charged for using his father’s vehicle without consent that he is supposed to be “looking out for his father, not stressing him out.”

On December 5, Lucky Homer’s father appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Colin John as a virtual complainant about a matter in which his son used his motor vehicle P9021 without his consent or the consent of any lawful authority.

However, Homer’s father told the Senior Magistrate that he no longer wants to give evidence against his son in this matter, but instead made a special request that John give his son a stern warning about touching his possessions.

John told Lucky that in light of his father’s decision to no longer give any evidence against him, his charge has been dropped.

However, he granted the father’s request and advised Homer not to find himself in such a position again.

“You know this is a criminal offence?” John asked the young man.

You are lucky…that your father decided not to press charges against you…you are supposed to be looking out for him, not stressing him out,” the Senior Magistrate continued.

I advise you strongly not to come back before the court,” John said, adding that he hopes that Homer will behave himself from this moment onwards.
