The awardees for the 2023/24 academic year are Okieve Graham – BSc Marketing; Juliette James – BEd Educational Leadership and Management; Jolisa Primus – BEd Early Childhood Development and Family Studies and Leroy Walker – BSc Sport Leadership and Management.
The four bursary awardees will join the existing cohort of 11 students who are currently pursuing studies at the Global Campus with the sponsorship of the MCT, which started the bursary awards programme in 2010.
Camille Lakhram, officer-in-charge at the UWI Global Campus, while addressing the awards ceremony last Friday, October 6 said the MCT bursary was “one of the best bursaries” to have, adding “… we at the UWI Global Campus, recognise the many persons who lack financial resources and to this end we partnered with MCT in 2009.”

The partnership was made with the hope of giving persons the opportunity to obtain their goals at the university. Lakhram reminded students to “remain resolute in your pursuit of a higher education and the transformative effects this attainment can have on your future prospects.”
She also spoke of the university’s mentorship programme which is geared at providing a confidential environment for students who may be facing challenges, so that they can be assisted before the challenge becomes a problem that affects the student’s academic progress.
The mentorship programme is part of the bursary award, which covers 60 per cent of the student’s academic fees. The bursary recipients, who must maintain a GPA of 2.0, will also be given a laptop which they can keep.

Since inception of the programme, the Mustique Charitable Trust has supported a total of 28 graduates, 15 of whom were awarded first class honours, 12 second class honours and one received a certificate.
Dularie Malcolm, Administrative Director of the Mustique Charitable Trust also gave brief remarks at the presentation ceremony.
