Applications now being processed for importers of refrigerant gases

THE Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture is currently processing applications for individuals and companies who intend to import refrigerant gases.

In a recently issued notice, the ministry has reminded all such importers of refrigerant gases, which are used in the refrigeration and air conditioning servicing sector, that they must be registered as an importer and obtain a certificate of registration as stipulated by the Montreal Protocol (control) Regulations, 2005.

It also has reminded that an import license is required for each import of refrigerant gases in all categories.

The application and registration period for 2023 runs from December 1-31, 2022.

Imports from non-registered importers are prohibited and any person who contravenes is liable on summary conviction to a fine of EC$5000, and any goods

imported shall be liable to forfeiture in accordance with the regulations and may be seized and detained by the Comptroller, Customs and Excise Department, the ministry’s release further states.

Applications and registrations are done at the Sustainable Development Unit’s Office, located on the second floor of the financial complex.
