Voters can vote without their ID card – Bacchus-Baptiste

Once a person’s name appears on the voters’ list, that person must be allowed to vote in the upcoming general elections, even without a national identification card.

Lawyer and candidate for the New Democratic Party (NDP) Kay Bacchus-Baptiste advised party supporters on Wednesday night that persons wishing to vote just have to prove who they are to a presiding officer and they must be allowed to vote on November 5.

“I would like to debunk some rumours that have been going around and to set the record straight.

“How many of you know you can vote if you don’t have your ID card on that day?

“How many of you know that? Because there has been a rumour going around that if you don’t have your ID Card, you cannot vote. What you need is to have your name on the list. Once your name is on the list you are entitled to vote,” Bacchus-Baptiste explained while addressing a public meeting in Marriaqua.

The politician, who is a candidate in the West St George constituency for the November 5 poll said that a voter just has to satisfy the presiding officer as to who they are in order to be allowed to cast their ballot for a political party.
