Unidentified skeletal remains found at Buccament

The skeletal remains of a body found in Buccament on Saturday, May 30 have not yet been identified.

Reports are that the body was discovered in the vicinity of the secondary school some time in the afternoon, after which the police were called in.

The remains are said to be in an advanced stage of decomposition and therefore hard to identify.

Over the years several persons have gone missing in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), never to be seen again.

Following the December 24, 2013 trough system which caused landslides and rivers, including those at Vermont and Buccament, to overflow their banks, nine persons were confirmed dead, while three others remain unaccounted for, but are presumed dead.

They are Inka Jack, 12, of Questelles; Sheila Edwards, 36, of Buccament; and Josel Morgan-Small, 27, of Lowmans Leeward who were all washed away by raging flood waters.

It has been speculated that the remains may be those of Jack or Edwards as Morgan-Small was washed out to sea.

Other people have disappeared under more mysterious circumstances. Among them are Menelaus “Servant of the Lord” Jocelyn of Cane Garden who went missing from his home on December 26, 2011 and Godfrey Ashton of Rose Hall who has been missing since December 2011.

Other missing men include Kahili Tupac Ollivierre alias “QQ” who was last seen at 4:47 p.m. on August 4, 2016 at Dougan’s Shop in Calliaqua and Jeremy Riley, a 32-year-old chauffeur of New Adelphi who has not been seen since Sunday, April 26. Riley’s vehicle was found at Argyle on April 28.

One of the most high profile cases took place in October 2011 when Belair resident Shanika Small was reported missing by a female friend.

On Sunday October 30, 2011, a partially decomposed body was found on the Minors Estate in the Welcome/Dauphine area and persons assumed it was Small. The identity has however never been verified despite several attempts at DNA tests.
