SVGFF to benefit from CONCACAF stimulus package

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation ( SVGFF) is among 41 members of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Associations of Football (CONCACAF) to benefit from financial assistance, as a result of the fall-out from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The CONCACAF Development Fund, a financial assistance programme, has been set up to help member associations boost their development portfolios.

CONCACAF disclosed that it would be fast-tracking the process of accessing the fund, in order to help member associations, some which have been unable to host income- generating competitions.

Reports are that the SVGFF is currently working out a method of having local clubs benefit from CONCACAF’s funding.

On March 13, the SVGFF placed a halt on its national club championships, as a means to practice physical and social distancing, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The national club championships was at that point hosting the premier division and second division, with the women’s and development divisions set to commence late last month.

Additionally, the SVGFF had earmarked the Under-11 and Under-13 for earlier this month.

Other than the SVGFF’s national club championships, St Vincent and the Grenadines’ senior national men’s football team, dubbed “Vincy Heat”, had its matches in the CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifiers, March 26 and 31, versus Guadeloupe postponed.

COVID-19 has also affected the FLOW Caribbean Club Championships which were scheduled for next month.
