Dr JP Eustace students visit historical sites around SVG

Thirty-one students of the Dr JP Eustace Memorial Secondary School last week visited several historic sites on St Vincent as part of their commemoration of National Heroes and Heritage month.

On Thursday, March 1, the third and fourth form history students visited Fort Charlotte, the old Public Library museum, the Obelisk at Dorsetshire Hill, Maroon Hill at Greiggs and the re-constructed indigenous settlement site at Argyle.

“Students were very intrigued, as they traced the Second Carib War, tactics and settlement patterns of the Black Caribs, on this outing. We, as Vincentians, are encouraged to enlighten our youths as to our local history and their ability to impact positive change,” a release from the school said.

The field trip took place under the leadership of principal Suzette Ferdinand and deputy principal Mr Cruickshank, history teachers Mrs Young and Ms Bailey, and teacher Mr DaSilva. Mr Young and Mrs Moses also accompanied the students.

Prior to this trip, on February 6, three fifth form students, accompanied by Mrs Young paid a visit to the House of Assembly. “Students observed the Sitting and were enlightened by the data presented, with the prospect of probably, one day becoming members of Parliament,” the release said.
