Hop scotch, road tennis, aerobics, among others, filled the afternoon’s agenda, which was promoted as a “family fun day”. The day’s action saw a square off between the Be Fit Movement and personnel from the Department of Physical Education and Sports.

The idea of a Caribbean Wellness Day was conceived during the CARICOM Heads of Government Summit on Chronic Diseases, staged in Port Of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago in 2007.

This initiated the Caribbean Wellness Day in 2008 and until 2011, the focus was on raising awareness at the national, regional and international levels.

Then from 2012 to 2015, the focus was on controlling the non-communicable diseases.

Through another decision by CARICOM Heads of Government this year, they pledged to address issues aimed at reducing potentially harmful foods which target children.

These include foods which are high in sugar, salt and trans fat.
