SVG’s first Olympic Games Seoul, South Korea in 1988

St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) has participated in every Olympic Games since 1988 and will again compete in Rio, Brazil, in the Games which commences on Friday, August 5, 2016, in two disciplines, track and field and swimming.

Our Olympic journey began in Seoul, South Korea and we were represented by two disciplines, track and field and boxing.{{more}} The team was led by Woodrow ‘Keylee’ Williams as chief of mission and included Lennox Adams – triple jump; Orde Ballantyne – long jump; Michael Williams – 400 metres; André François – 200 metres; Jacqueline Ross – shot putt; Hudson Nanton – boxing; Trevor “Cobax” Browne – athletics coach; Fitzroy “Buddy” Browne – coach. The team was accompanied by president Aubrey “Rasbu” Burgin and general secretary Wilmoth Seaton.

The team did not qualify for any event after the first round and our boxer did not compete because of some weight problems; however, SVG became known to the world.
