Airline to announce SVG as destination route soon – Gonsalves

Before the end of June, an airline based in the United States is expected to announce St Vincent and the Grenadines as a destination on its route.

This announcement was made by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves on Sunday, as he addressed the Unity Labour Party’s 22nd annual convention at the Campden Park Secondary School.{{more}}

“Before the end of June, this airline will be announcing that it will be coming to St Vincent and the Grenadines and the date when it will start coming…,” Gonsalves said to rousing applause.

The name of the airline, however, still remains a mystery to many Vincentians.

“I can’t tell you the name of this airline, but we have already done the negotiations with an international carrier out of the United States and before the end of June, I will be singing the agreement.”

The Prime Minister pointed out that while the agreement is expected to be signed soon, he is awaiting a few final details from the Attorney General and the Director General of Finance and Planning.

“The agreement is okay as far as I read, but I have to get the final input of these two important officials,” he said.

Gonsalves said following the announcement by this airline, other competitors would be driven to want to come to St Vincent.

Additionally Gonsalves pointed out that airlines from Britain, Canada and the Caribbean have already shown interest in landing at the Argyle International Airport (AIA).

The Prime Minister told the packed auditorium of the Campden Park Secondary School that he is also continuing to sign air services agreements with a number of countries.

“…In about four weeks, we are signing one with the United Arab Emirates. Canada has indicated they want us to sign one; the United States of America,[and] Turkey; countries want to sign air services agreement with us. Some we ask them, some they ask us,” Gonsalves indicated.

Recently air services agreements were signed with Qatar and Chile. (CM)
