Events planning and management seminar coming on April 20

The Centre for Enterprise Development Inc (CED), in conjunction with the Barbados Institute of Management & Productivity (BIMAP), will next month host a two-day seminar on Events Planning and Management.{{more}}

The seminar is designed to develop and maximize the full potential of participants, and is scheduled to take place on April 20 and 21 at the NIS training room.

According to CED’s training coordinator, Keisha Phillips, the seminar will cover a wide range of event-specific and interrelated topics that will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to think critically in the fast-paced event environment.

“This seminar will examine a range of theoretical perspectives that can be applied to improve practice and enable participants to be more effective practitioners in events planning, organization and implementation within both their own organizations and St Vincent and the Grenadines in general. It will also explore and develop critical employability skills and industry knowledge in the organization and planning of special events.”

Phillips says with more people being assigned the responsibility to plan and execute activities and events within their respective organizations, there is need for training.

“Since CED and BIMAP first collaborated in 2009 to offer the Event Planning seminar here, we have seen 118 persons benefitting from our seminars, and we are confident that this seminar will help participants to be more efficient in planning their organization’s events, and help set some persons on a promising career path in Event Planning.”

Upon completing this training, participants are expected to be able to identify and co-ordinate the logistical components of event coordination, including, but not limited to food and beverage management, human resource management, financial management, etc; discuss the emergence of the event industry in the Caribbean, citing examples from across St Vincent and the Grenadines; demonstrate an understanding of the importance of, and techniques used in event evaluation; and identify the components of a risk management plan and understand the purpose and importance of contracts, permits, licences, insurance and contingency plans.

The seminar will be facilitated by BIMAP’s Kim Bascombe (BSc, MSc). It will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Interested persons have until Tuesday, April 12 to register. For more information, contact CED’s office at 451-2235/6.
