SVG Scout Association elects new members

Three new members have been added to the executive of the Scouts Association of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

At the Annual General Meeting, held on March 5 at the organization’s headquarters at Arnos Vale, Charles Mc Intosh was elected treasurer, with Jonathan Nicholls and Nichole Olivierre-Barnwell elected committee members.{{more}}

In attendance at last Saturday’s meeting were: Governor General, Sir Frederick Ballantyne (Chief Scout), Minister with responsibility for Youth, Frederick Stevenson, various Scout Commissioners, leaders, representatives from other organizations and several Scouts and Cub Scouts.

At the meeting, the organization’s constitution was amended and ratified, and a draft Youth Policy presented. Chief Commissioner Sherron Morgan-Peters presented the Commissioner’s and Treasurer’s Reports, for the year 2015.

In her report, Morgan-Peters reiterated that the aim of scouting is to encourage the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development of young people, so that they can take a constructive place in society, as members of their local, national and international communities. She further outlined a plan of action for 2016, which includes: Developing a three-year Strategic Development Plan; Developing a Youth Programme Policy Document; Completion of the Organization’s Rules and Policy Document; Establishing two additional functioning Explorer Scout Groups (age 12-15); Sending a contingent to the 15th Caribbean Cuboree in Guyana, scheduled for July 24-29, 2016.

One leader was warranted and two leaders presented with Leaders’ Certificates.

The full Executive Committee 2015-2016, reads : president Ken Murray; first vice-president Kay Martin-Jack; second vice-president Fitzgerald Providence; treasurer Charles Mc Intosh; secretary Elizabeth A Williams; chief scout Sir Frederick Ballantyne; chief commissioner Sherron Morgan-Peters; international commissioner Ava Weekes-Stephens; cub scouts commissioner Hassan Wickham; district commissioner – Windward Huelin Brewster; training commissioner Phillip Jacobs; disaster preparedness/environmental commissioner Cassandra Barrow; headquarters commissioner Michelle Quashie; youth commissioner Jozelle Henry; committee members Doris McIntosh, Nicole Olivierre-Barnwell and Jonathan Nicholls.

In his address, Chief Scout, Sir Frederick Ballantyne, commended the organization on the progress it had made, and challenged the executive to build on its achievements by initiating new strategies. He further pledged his continued assistance and support to the Association.

Scouting was founded in 1907 by Sir Robert Baden-Powell, who held a camp on Brownsea Island in Poole, Dorset, with 20 boys.
