Roman Catholic Bishop elect arrives in SVG

Gerard County, the Bishop-elect of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kingstown, arrived in St Vincent and the Grenadines on Tuesday.

He will be ordained as Bishop for the Kingstown Diocese on Saturday, February 20 at 10 a.m. at the Community College.{{more}}

Fr Gerard is from Trinidad and Tobago. He was ordained as a priest in January 1996 and after his ordination, he was sent to the Spiritan mission in Mexico, where he served for the past 19 years in a number of ministries with the congregation. He is fluent in Spanish and has a passion for young people and a deep sense of community.

Bishop Elect County stated that he is all about inclusion. He further added that through baptism we are all grafted on to Christ and as such, we become members of his body. He intends to find creative ways to reach out to society, especially to those on the periphery, but this he says he will do with the assistance of God, along with his brothers and sisters in Christ. He wants to remind Vincentians that Christ came for all and that we are to avoid being selective about whom we minister and reach out to.

The Bishop-elect further observed that his ordination is not about him or the ceremony, but one for the people of St Vincent and Grenadines. “Vincentians are not to see this event as one for Catholics only, but for all, as we are one in the body of Christ.” Hence, all are invited to celebrate the ordination ceremony on February 20th, 10 a.m. at the Community College.

Persons who wish to see the Bishop-elect are invited to Mass at the Cathedral of the Assumption on Saturday, February 13 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, February 14 at 7 and 9 a.m.
