IMPACT Justice Sexual Harassment Legislation Committee Meeting in Grenada

The Sexual Harassment Legislation Committee of the Canadian Government-funded project, Improved Access to Justice in the Caribbean (IMPACT Justice), is meeting in Grenada to review its draft model Sexual Harassment Bill. IMPACT Justice, which is a regional justice sector reform project, is being implemented from within the Caribbean Law Institute Centre, UWI, Cave Hill Campus.

The Committee meeting, which takes place from February 8 to 9 at the Radisson Grenada Beach Resort, follows on the heels of an IMPACT Justice workshop held in November, 2015, to discuss its update of the CARICOM Model Sexual Harassment Bill.{{more}} At that workshop the Draft Model Sexual Harassment Bill was introduced to stakeholders, who provided feedback to inform amendments.

The IMPACT Justice Sexual Harassment Legislation Committee, which comprises representatives of Attorneys General, the CARICOM Secretariat, Social Services Departments, Bureaus of Gender Affairs, the Police Department and legislative drafters from CARICOM Member States, will discuss and agree on a way forward for finalization of the Draft Model Sexual Harassment Bill.

The meeting will conclude with a Closing Ceremony on February 9. Specially invited guests include Justice Paula Gilford and Justice Shiraz Aziz, Judges of the High Court, Grenada; Tafawa Pierre, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Head of the Financial Intelligence Unit, Grenada; Lisa Telesford, Registrar Supreme Court of Grenada; Ruggles Ferguson, President of the OECS Bar Association; and Sandra Ferguson, Chairperson, Inter Agency Group of Development Organizations, Grenada.
