Diplomat to launch her first published novel

After many years of creative writing and the occasional publication of her poems in the newspapers in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) while she was a teenager, Doris D Williams-Charles has now published her first novel – ‘The Day I Found Him.’

Charles is a diplomat assigned to the St Vincent and the Grenadines High Commission in London. The novel was written since 2008 previous to her appointment to office and her book launch will take place tomorrow, February 6, at the High Commission commencing at 6 p.m. {{more}}

All profits from the sale of the book will be donated to the Buccament Government (Primary) School in Dubois.  Doris was once a student at this school and sees this as her way of giving back to the school and the community that nurtured her throughout her days as a student.

Prime Minister of SVG Dr Ralph E Gonsalves, will attend the event as well as many other Vincentians and friends of SVG.

Manyonyi Amalemba – Author of the book ‘Becoming…’ has this to say about Mrs. Charles’ book:

Headteacher of the Buccament Primary school Susan Jackson Abraham, comments on the anticipated donations from the book sale was very elated about such an initiative.  Her words were, “Mrs Charles was one of our girls of whom we are justly proud and fond. We thank her for all her support.”

Charles’ efforts in using her creative writing skills to support her school and the communities will be an ongoing exercise.  Her desire is to continue to lend support to her beloved primary school and other initiatives organized by the school.

Organizers of the event – the BIS Publications has advised that persons wishing to attend the book launch are asked to call Charles at the High Commission.  Interest in the event is very high and spaces for attendees are limited.
