‘I never asked ULP for any Labour Love’ – Linton Lewis

The New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for East St George believes that the Prime Minister means for Unity Labour Party (ULP) supporters to “attack” him whenever he goes to the North Central Windward constituency.

Speaking at an NDP rally last Saturday in Mesopotamia, Dr Linton Lewis said that recently Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves told a gathering of ULP supporters at Georgetown{{more}} that they should show him (Lewis) “Labour love” whenever he is in the area.

“I never ask them for any Labour love; I never told anyone I need Labour love. But what he is saying to them is attack me! That is Labour love – crime and violence, woe and strife. That is the Labour love they talking about!” alleged Lewis.

He also indicated that the ULP candidate for East St George, Camillo Gonsalves, had made a veiled threat towards him at the opening of his constituency office last Friday, October 16.

Referring to the younger Gonsalves as “a foreigner”, Lewis maintained that his opponent had said during his address that he would “deal with” him.

“I don’t understand that,” said Lewis. “When I was 16 years of age, I had to confront with bowlers coming in at 100 miles an hour…

“I wasn’t fearful then, and I will not be fearful now of Camillo Gonsalves and Ralph Gonsalves!”

Lewis asserted that if Camillo Gonsalves is so confident of a win, he should stop promising to pay persons $800 to campaign for him and that the ULP should also stop paying individuals $100 to turn up to its rallies and meetings.

Additionally, the NDP East St George candidate said that it is such behaviour exhibited by ULP members that has the citizens of St Vincent and the Grenadines living in fear.

“Just the fear of existing in St Vincent and the Grenadines is enough for you to vote the Unity Labour Party out of office in this country!” (JSV)
