Rotary Club hosts ‘Wine and Cheese Soiree’

Fine wine, cheese and art were the order of the evening, as the Rotary Club of St Vincent hosted its annual Wine and Cheese Soirée last weekend.

The event, held under the auspices of the Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, took place on Saturday, October 3, at the Sugar Mill in Ratho Mill, and is one of the club’s key fund-raising initiatives,{{more}} used to raise funds for the various projects that they undertake here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Patrons of the event sampled a wide variety of wines and cheeses, many of which require an acquired taste, as well as viewed art pieces created by local artists, which were up for sale in a private auction.

This year, in keeping with the guidelines of Rotary International, the Club will embark on a campaign to treat persons with dyslexia, a condition that hampers learning in children and adults.

The Club also plans to utilize proceeds from the event to carry out its ongoing Rotary Village Doctor programme, where they venture into various communities with medical practitioners, and offer free health care and services to the residents.

The Club also intends to refurbish the School for Children with Special Needs in the upcoming months and has been the patron of the institution since it was established more than two decades ago.

Saturday’s wine and cheese soirée is just one of the major fund-raisers scheduled for this year.

The next event on the Club’s list of activities is the annual Leeward moonlight board ride, which takes place on Sunday, October 25.

The theme of the Rotary Club this year is “Be a Gift to the World.”
