4.7 magnitude earthquake rocks SVG

An earthquake which registered 4.7 on the magnitude scale with epicenter 64 km East of Castries, St Lucia was reported to be felt 132 km away by people in Kingstown, St Vincent yesterday, Thursday, May 14.

According to information generated by the Seismic Research Center, University of the West Indies, Trinidad, at 10.16am local time Thursday, an earthquake occured at Latitude 14.01N and Longitude 60.40W or 64km to the East of Castries, St Lucia.{{more}} The earthquake was registered on the magnitude scale as 4.7 at a depth of 21 km.

A release from the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) said it has received several calls from persons in various areas places in St Vincent who reported that they felt the quake.

There was no threat of a tsumani given the size of the earthquake, the release from NEMO said.

There has been no reported damage from the quake in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
