Mustique Charitable Trust assists with Rock Gutter tragedy

The Mustique Charitable Trust has committed to providing assistance where it can, following the tragedy at Rock Gutter on January 12.

A release from the Trust said on hearing about the accident,{{more}} the Mustique Company immediately sent its security boat to the area of the accident to help with the search and rescue of the injured and missing persons.

The Trust has donated EC $100,000 towards the purchase of the school bus, which will be run by the Ministry of Education to transport students to and from school.

“The funds for this donation came from our affiliated trust in the United Kingdom. This donation was handed over to the Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, on Monday, January 19. We have also committed to replacing school bags and school supplies for those students in need and to contribute towards the transport costs of the immediate family to visit the injured in hospital,” the release said.

“We thank the Prime Minister’s Office, NEMO and staff at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and the Ministry of Education who are assisting the Trust in coordinating its response to this tragedy. The Trust is primarily focused on improving opportunities for children, young people and vulnerable adults while supporting the development of sustainable communities throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines. The Trust extends support to the Government and people of St Vincent and the Grenadines in this disaster.”

The release also said that the thoughts and prayers of the Trust are with all those who have been affected by the terrible tragedy at Rock Gutter.

“The Mustique Charitable Trust extends its deepest condolence to the bereaved and the community of Fancy. The North Windward area of St Vincent is well known in Mustique as it has always been a large recruitment area for the Mustique Company. Many of our employees have been affected by this tragedy.”
