National church service to be held in remembrance of December floods

A national church service will be held tomorrow in remembrance of the floods of December 24, 2013, that claimed the lives of 12 Vincentians and caused tremendous damage to the country.{{more}}

The service will be held at St Mary’s Anglican Church, Pembroke, beginning at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2014. Following the service, there will be a candlelight march from the church to Marty’s gas station.

Also tomorrow, the country will pause for one minute at noon. During that minute, church bells will toll, sirens at Police Headquarters will go off, all radio stations will pause talking and play low music.

These activities form part of a series of events which has been planned by the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) to mark the first anniversary of the Christmas floods.

“As we pause to remember those who perished and empathise with those close relatives and friends who continue to mourn their loss, we invite your participation …. More importantly, we request your prayers for the healing of the nation, specifically for those still shaken by the events,” a release from Howie Prince, director of NEMO said.

A special church service will also be held at Rose Bank on Christmas Day.

The public is invited to participate in all the events, particularly the national remembrance service.
