Digicel rewards another customer with $10,000

A show of Christmas spirit on the behalf of one man and being in the right place at the right time for another has left both men with a little more money at their disposal for the Christmas season, compliments Digicel.{{more}}

On Friday December 12, Digicel held their fourth ‘Together we make Christmas Better’ game show type promotion, which this time around was held at Heritage Square, Kingstown.

One of the finalists, Anthony Patterson, had another appointment and could not stick around to take part in the promotion which awards EC$10,000 to the winner, so he handed over his place in the promotion to Mashardo Abraham, who just happened to be passing at the time.

Abraham ended up being not the only person taking part in the promotion for another person, as he competed against Tashica Richardson (on behalf of Sylvenius Edwards) and Maxwell Exeter (on behalf of Leroy Mitchelle). Cecelia John was the other competitor.

But unlike the other contestants, Abraham ended up winning the EC$10,000 prize.

“I knew Patterson from when I worked at Vinlec”, said Abraham, “it was kind of surprising to just be chosen just like that. He saw me there and gave me the opportunity to win and I won,” said Abraham who said also that he has been a Digicel customer since the company began operating here.

So how did Abraham win the money?

On Friday, four soft drink beverages in glass bottles were placed on the bar of Fitzy’s Trailer on Heritage Square. The four contestants were each asked to choose one of the drinks and consume the contents of the bottle. When they finished drinking, each contestant noticed a number taped on the bottom of their bottle and each number matched that of an automobile that was parked on the Square. The contestants were then asked to get into the automobile that matched the number found on their bottle.

The four were then taken for a ride and when they returned to Heritage Square, they were asked to look under their passenger seat for an envelope, one of which contained the EC$10,000 in cash.

Richardson who is from Roseau received PV846, John from Prospect was P102, Exeter got P8182 and Abraham from Arnos Vale was P7764.

Abraham ended up with the money while the other contestants did not leave empty handed as they ended up with bottled beverages that compliments the Christmas season.

Abraham said that when he informed Patterson he had won, “he told me was my winnings and I could give him something if I wanted to.” Abraham said that he has decided to hand over a quarter of the money to Patterson.

“It was a shock in a sense because this is the first time winning something and it is a good feeling and I told Patterson thanks for the Christmas gift,” said Abraham who added that he was just making a casual lime with a friend, hence his reason for being in Heritage Square.

Abraham, who is a tally clerk at the General Maritime Agencies (GMA) said that he is going to use his portion of the money to make an investment.

“I will like to say thanks to Patterson and thanks to Digicel,” stressed Abraham.

In response Patterson said that he was glad to be able to do something generous for somebody.

“He just happened to be passing by and I saw him and said give it to him. He was sceptical at first then he accepted,” said Patterson who added that he had an urgent appointment somewhere else.

Meanwhile, marketing manager at Digicel Juno DeRoche said that people are entered in the random draws for Digicel’s ‘Together we make Christmas Better’ promotion when they do everyday transactions like topping up EC$15 or more, pay their post-paid bill in full and on time, sign up for a seven day 4G data plan or higher or purchase a 4G smartphone.

People also qualify when they join the Digicel family by purchasing a SIM card while customers are also entered in the draw when they receive a top of US$20 or more from overseas.

So far this Christmas season, three other people have won EC$10,000 as part of the ‘Together we make Christmas Better’ promotion. Cornelius Francis of Belvedere won on Friday November 21, Antonia Robertson of Arnos Vale won on Friday November 28, and on Friday December 5, Shenedon Adams of Union Island won.

Today, Friday December 19, two lucky people will receive a call from Digicel telling them that they each have won EC$5,000 as part of the ‘Together we make Christmas Better’ promotion while on Christmas Eve December 24, a lucky person will take home EC$20,000 in the final day of the competition.
