Scotiabank provides music platform for young pannist
Apart from the trophy he won in the first ever Scotiabank Solo Pan Clash last Sunday at Heritage Square, the Potential Steel Orchestra member will receive music lessons for one year, from local pan maestro-in-the-making Rodney Small.
Following his training, Oliver is expected to take a musical examination with the London School of Music, all expenses paid for by Scotiabank, of course.
For placing second and third in the competition respectively, Arike Browne of the Symphonix Steel Orchestra, and Shaquanie Antoine of the Sion Hill Steel Orchestra will each receive Junior Savings Accounts from the bank.
Personal Banking officer Janine DeFreitas thanked the eventâs organizer, the Youlou Pan Movement, for making Scotiabank a part of the event and helping to create an exciting opportunity for the participants, especially Oliver, who will, as a result, gain more knowledge and experience from a musical star, Rodney Small.
She also indicated that Scotiabank fully supports music and culture as they are the official sponsors of the South East Steel Orchestra, and she vowed that the bank will continue to provide support to the youths who choose to excel in the area of pan.
This year, Scotiabank also sponsored the day launch of Vincy Mas on May 3, which saw a number of youngsters participating in various aspects of Carnival and traditional games.(JJ)
