Rotary charters new Interact Club
Twenty-three students from the Dr J.P. Eustace Memorial Secondary School are the newest members of the worldwide “Rotary” family.
Witnessed by nearly all of the school’s 500 students, the 23 Charter Members received their special badges to deafening applause, at a special Charter Ceremony arranged by the Rotary Club of St Vincent. This was held on Monday, 02 June 2014 at the school in Edinboro.{{more}}
Principal Alwyn Joseph welcomed the new Interact Club, and reminded students that, from September, all students must be active in one of the many “clubs” in the school. He expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of St Vincent for generously forming Interact Clubs.
Cassandra Butcher spoke of her pleasure in being the Interact advisor, liaising between the Interactors and the school. She has generously given her time since the new club was proposed late last year, and several exciting Interact projects are already planned.
Rotary Club of St Vincent president Earl Tash explained that the new Interactors are part of over 200,000 Interactors worldwide, plus over 1,200,000 Rotarians, and will receive the full support of Rotary International.
Rotary president-elect Collin Boyle, who is also the director for Youth Service, invited other students to consider joining Interact, and was rewarded with many students willing to take this first step towards community service.
Featured speaker Garcia Cato received a warm welcome, as she spoke of her own schooldays and the lessons she had learned. In particular, she encouraged all students to identify the “right” friends and to follow the right path.
The Charter certificate was proudly presented to the Dr J.P. Eustace Memorial Secondary School, including new Interact president Charitiana Charles, before MC Joe Sheridan led everyone in singing the National Anthem, to conclude the ceremony.
The Interact motto is “Serious Fun,” whilst the Rotary Motto is “Service above Self.” The Rotary Club of St Vincent was chartered in 1971, and has been providing community service solidly to Vincentians for 43 years.
