The scholarship was launched in late August as a tribute to the late Timmy Richards, former principal of the IHS, who pioneered it for some decades. The scholarship was established to recognize Richards for his outstanding contribution to the development of education in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

An award ceremony is scheduled for next Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the old Intermediate High School building in Kingstown.

Director of Trade and former Hospital Administrator, Cuthbert Knights, who taught Principles of Business, History and Social Studies at the IHS for several years, will deliver the feature address, while remarks will also be made by Secretary of the Board Nicole Sylvester.

During the ceremony, each recipient will be presented with a cheque.

The scholarship, which will be awarded bienially, provides financial assistance to past students of the school and the children of past students at the IHS. Awardees attending the Community/Technical College will receive EC$2,000 and awardees attending university will receive EC$10,000 over two years.

Tuesday’s award ceremony will be attended by Principal Alinda Hypolite and teachers, as well as current and past students of the school.
