Hey Rosie,

I have the most selfish roommate! I have been renting a room in my apartment to her and she is just a selfish pig! She doesn’t take out the garbage, she has her television up so loud at night, is late paying her rent and is rude in general. How can I get her out, Rosie. I would rather pay my rent without her help.  I need my peace of mind.

I think you have pretty much answered your own question.

If you are that unhappy I would say, “yes”. Go ahead and explore how you can legally give your roommate notice to leave.  Did you sign a lease with her? Or is she on the lease with you as well? All of these factors will need to be considered before making a move.

If you are successful in having her go, you may want to vet your new roommate (if you go that route again) more carefully. Double and triple check their references and maybe do a shorter type of lease, like a month to month, just in case they are just as bad. Good luck!
