Get your house in order, says Magistrate

Chief Magistrate Sonya sent a stern warning to the prosecution to get their house in order by March 8, as a final adjournment was granted in the matter where Devon Ashton stands accused of the murder of Okeefe Lynch.{{more}}

“We have already taken five witnesses and I have heard nothing. The other five are going to give me something useful?” Young asked Prosecutor Nigel Butcher, as he answered in the affirmative.

Lynch, who was known as ‘Spenx’, was found shot to death on Friday, August 8, 2008, just about two minutes from his home at Murray’s Road, at about 5:45 am.

At the Preliminary Inquiry, Carlos Penniston, a prisoner, refused at one point to repeat something he said in evidence to the Chief Magistrate.

Penniston was asked repeatedly to repeat what he said, but still refused to do so. Chief Magistrate Young then stood down the matter and asked the prosecutor to speak to Penniston.

When the matter resumed, Penniston finally repeated what he had said in his testimony.

Ashton’s arrest came three years after Lynch was found with a single gunshot wound to the head.
