Ethan Kent leaves his mark on another COTECC Outing
FRESH FROM BEING named the Most Promising Male Player in the Grade 2 Confederation of Tennis of Central America and the Caribbean (COTECC) Under-14 tournament in Barbados last month,Vincentian Ethan Kent, left the Junior Infantile Tennis International Championships (JITIC) with his ratings advanced.
Kent was part of the JITIC that took place at the Polideportivo Ciudad Merliot in the city of Santa Tecla, El Salvador, May 2 to 7, 2026.
Featuring 96 players- 48 boys and 48 girls- and dubbed “the competition for the future champions of the region, Kent ended with five wins and an equal number of losses in singles play, as well as one win and one loss in the doubles.
His best showing was in the consolation segment where he reached the final, but had to settle for second place. Up against Daniel Castro of Honduras in the final, Kent lost 4-6, 6-1, 7-10.
Kent got to the final, after disposing of all comers in the preceding rounds.
First, Kent defeated Eli Paty of Trinidad and Tobago 6-3, 6-0, before ousting Gabriel Parcelis of Panama, 6-2, 6-1; then Paulo Alvarez of Honduras 1-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Stashed in Group Five in the preliminary phase of the tournament, Kent began his campaign with a loss to Gabriel Antonio Molina Flores of Honduras 4-6, 6-3, 7-10.
Kent turned things around against Adrian Abreu Jozic of Puerto Rico in match two, trumping 6-3, 7-5.
A pattern was established as he was defeated by Mexico’s Alvaro Bañales 4-6, 4-6, but won over Rohan Ramcharitar of Trinidad and Tobago 6-0,
6-0; and finally lost to Hector Cruz of Costa Hector Cruz of Costa Rica, 2-6, 0-6.
Based on his standings in Group 5, Kent was first matched against Gerardo Zuniga of Honduras in the round of 32.
Kent was defeated 1-6, 3-6, which saw him entered in the consolation draw in which he excelled to the final.
In Doubles play Kent, along with T’ Zuriel Percival of St Kitts and Nevis saw off Liam Cave of Barbados and Josejuan of Puerto Rico, 4-1, 4-2 in the first round.
But the Vincentian/ Kittian partnership went out in the second round, beaten 4-5, 4-1, 6-10 by the duo of Mexican- Karim Balbuena and Daniel Casco of Honduras.
Kent was accompanied by Sebastian Cyrus,Vice President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association, who is also assistant coach with the Coballt Racquet Sports Academy.
Kent and Cyrus’ trip was made possible with financial support from the Mustique SVG Tennis Development Fund, and the SVG Olympic Committee.
