James and Holder out as Cricket Association elects new executive
AFTER SOME THREE or so decades, the newly elected executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association (SVGCA) will have a new general secretary, following its long-awaited Annual General Meeting held on Saturday, May 9,2026, at the President’s Suite at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.
Holder, who has been involved in the executive framework of the SVGCA for over three decades, and also served as manager of both the Windward Islands Under-15 and Under-17 teams on numerous occasions, was defeated by a new face to the executive, Javid Wilson, 54 votes to 21.
At the SVGCA’s long-overdue AGM Roland Wilkinson, no stranger to the executive, is now at the helm for the first time.
Wilkinson, who served for eight years as a committee member on a prior executive could be considered to have been involved in cricket for most of his life, defeated his opponent Frankie Joseph, 40 to 27.
Three members of the outgoing executive were returned as part to positions on the new elected executive that will run the affairs of the body for the next two years.
The lone female and former committee member, Samantha Lynch, returned to the the executive in a close match-up with Keron Cottoy 34 votes to 32 to take the position of 1st Vice President. Cottoy later earned a spot as one of the four committee members.
Desron Maloney defeated Elron Lewis 37-28 following a re-vote, after both opponents were tied 26-26 in the first round, and is now the new 2nd Vice President.
Lewis, who was on the outgoing executive as a committee member, regained that position on this new executive.
Raydon Bentick was returned unopposed as treasurer; and Cleton Burnett was returned unopposed as assistant secretary.
In a 10-way fight, the two new committee members who emerged are Steadroy Deane and Kadir Nedd.
The new executive plans to hit the ground running, with their first meeting on Monday, May 11, 2026.
Saturday’s special general meeting was the outcome of another special general meeting held on Friday, April 10, 2026, where the then executive had exhausted its mandate, and was therefore operating in an interim capacity until the May 9, 2026, meeting.
The hosting of an elective annual general meeting had been exhausted to a point where the outgoing executive begged for the forgiveness its affiliate members as its audited accounts were delayed.
In a release dated January 26, 2026, signed by then General Secretary, Samuel Holder, the executive stated: “For the second consecutive year, we must beg your indulgence regarding the Association’s delay in convening our Annual General Meeting (AGM) within the constitutionally stipulated time frame”.
It said the main cause of the delay was the perennial issue of the timely availability of the “audited statements”, adding that “President Dougal James has indicated his unwillingness to convene any meeting without the audited financial statements”.
It further stated that the meeting would be slated for the “latter part of February at the earliest”.
That, however, did not materialise, and the general membership therefore determined that the executive had exhausted its mandate.
A motion was then passed to convene another special general meeting on Saturday, May 9, 2026, to elect a new executive, with the current executive serving in an interim capacity until then, ” stated an April release signed by Holder.
The outgoing executive, led by Dougal James, was voted into office on September 5, 2023, to serve for two years.
