Kesrick Williams promises more
Sports Ambassador Kesrick Williams, promises to do more on his various platforms to help in steering youths away from crime and violence.
Williams, who has made a name for himself and St Vincent and the Grenadines in the sport of Cricket, especially representing the West Indies, was the initiator of the inaugural Valley Bakers Bakery Six- a- side Small Goal Football Competition, held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the small Ajuba Playing Field in Spring Village.
Following the successful staging of the competition, Williams told SEARCHLIGHT the reason behind the venture.
“ Over the years, we have had a lot of issues with regards to crime and violence amongst our young people and we often chalk it up to government’s fault- past and present- hence I saw the need of doing something like this because I am trying to inspire the youths and show them a different way how to spend your day and do things that you would not get involved in crime.” Williams said he got opportunities which others did not, hence he is delighted in giving back to the immediate community of Spring Village, and St Vincent and the Grenadines as a whole.
Pleased with the turnout and representation at the one-day football competition, Williams added: “It feels good that the police team came out giving the event the push that it needed. The community also came out as well as others from other parts of North Leeward, as well as former Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves. From the turnout it shows that we all are working towards a better St Vincent and the Grenadines. Every hand must be on deck to make it possible.”
Buoyed by the support from the residents of the area as well as those who journeyed from nearby communities, Williams disclosed plans for other activities geared at achieving his set goals.
“I have a lot more plans going forward for the rest of the year. I think with this sort of interaction, having such events, it is showing that I care about you. I care about developing my community, I care about St Vincent and the Grenadines. Everybody is to get involved with this, we need everybody to come together. Everybody has to put their hands up because we can’t want a better St Vincent and the Grenadines and [leave] it up to government,” the sports figure emphasised.
Williams, 36, represented the West Indies in 26 T 20 Internationals, and eight One-day Internationals between 2016 and 2020.
