Mc Coy drafted by Barbados Royals
Vincentian left arm fast bowler, Obed Mc Coy has been drafted by the Barbados Royals ahead of the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League.
The 25 -year-old Mc Coy in his previous years of the CPL represented the St Lucia franchise, namely the Stars, the Zouks, and the Kings. He did so from 2017.
Mc Coy last year carved out a name for himself, becoming the West Indies’ “ go to” bowler in T/20 Internationals.
His sojourn in international cricket though has been stop and go as he is regularly sidelined by injuries.
He is currently in India as part of the Rajasthan Royals to compete in the Indian Premier League, but is yet to make his debut.
Mc Coy’s move in the CPL is among several notable across franchise changes.
Among the biggest moves are Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran, from the Jamaica Tallawahs and the Guyana Amazon Warriors, respectively as they head to the Trinbago Knight Riders.
Other moves see Darren Bravo heading to the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots from the Knight Riders; Fabien Allen from the Patriots to the Tallawahs; Keemo Paul- St Lucia Kings to the Warriors; Brandon King from the Warriors to the Tallwahs; Andre Fletcher, who goes from the Kings to the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, while Johnson Charles returns to the St Lucia Kings from the Royals.
With the pre- draft and retentions out of the way, the six franchises at a later date will be engaged in the draw for the remainder of their squads.
The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots won the CPL for the first time last year, beating the St Lucia Kings in the finals.
CPL 2022 is set to bowl off on August 30 with the finals slated for September 30 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. That venue will host the finals until 2024.
Meanwhile, the inaugural women’s CPL takes place this year featuring three teams: Royals, Warriors and Knight Riders. The women’s CPL will be played alongside the men’s competition.
