Daughter eulogised her dad whose “heart was right with God”
DR JANELLE ALLEN, spoke with love and nostalgia of her dad Alpian Allen, who always made time for his family and prayer. She was delivering the eulogy on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at her father’s funeral whose years of life she likened to that of test cricket with four innings.
She took the congregation at the Kingstown Methodist Church, in which Allen served as a Lay Preacher for over five decades, through each of those four innings, noting that he served with humility, dedication and love.
The final inning of his life, she said, was lived in a much slower lane where, having retired from the demands in other spheres of life, he had time to devote to things he really enjoyed. Bonding with his grand children; taking on the preparation of meals- boileen being his favourite; and helping children in his community who were preparing for examinations- were among the things that brought him joy during that time. His “was a life well lived”, and one whose “heart was right with God,” Janelle said of her dad, who chose to encourage his children rather than heap condemnation when they were not at a place he did not want them to be.
