Friday and Gonsalves honour Allen
PRIME MINISTER Dr Godwin Friday and Opposition Leader Dr Ralph Gonsalves crossed party lines to deliver deeply moving tributes to Alpian Allen’s enduring legacy.
The veteran statesman passed away at the age of 86 on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, following a private battle with early-onset dementia. As a mark of solemn national respect, the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines directed that all national flags fly at half-staff for his official state funeral on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The day’s official proceedings commenced with a formal viewing at the temporary Parliament Building in Calliaqua, where dignitaries and the general public gathered to view the body.
Speaking at the Kingstown Methodist Church during Funeral Service, Prime Minister Friday said that service to one’s country is a high calling and answering that call is an act of duty and profound patriotism.“…[ It] bestows honour on those who do it selflessly and well, like Alpian Allen. It commands respect from fellow citizens and others who love our country and value extraordinary contributions that go above and beyond the norm.”
