Electrician charged with multiple offenses

A 44-YEAR-OLD electrician of Belair charged with multiple offenses, was granted EC$10,000 bail with one surety when he appeared at the Serious Offences Court on August 31, 2026.

Lennox Shortte was arrested and charged with the offenses of aggravated burglary; assault causing actual bodily harm; using threatening language; kidnapping; and taking a conveyance without lawful authority, the police said in a release. The charges were laid indictably, therefore Shortte was not required to enter a plea.

The police said in their release that on August 27, 2026 and August 28, 2026, the accused allegedly entered the dwelling house of a 66-year-old retiree of Brighton as a trespasser while armed with a cutlass. He is also charged for allegedly beating the complainant about her body with a cutlass and with his hands, causing her injuries. His third charge is one of maliciously uttering threatening words to the complainant by allegedly stating “I told you I was gonna get you, you see how easy it is?, you gonna die tonight”.

Shortte also faces a charge of kidnapping; and is charged as well with using motor vehicle P-3162 without the consent of the owner or any other lawful authority.

The offences were alleged to have been committed in Brighton. When Shortte appeared before the Serious Offences Court he was also ordered not to have any contact with the complainant and to report to the Calliaqua Police Station every Monday and Wednesday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. The court also ordered that Shortte surrenders all travel documents, and stop notices were placed at all ports of entry and exit. Police said the matters were adjourned.
