Linda Mc Dowall keeps reign in NACAC Chatoyer 10K

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ top female road athlete Linda Mc Dowall kept her strangle hold on the international female category of the NACAC Chatoyer 10K, when she notched up her fourth successive title, last Sunday.

Run from Gordon Yard to the Chateaubelair Playing Field, Mc Dowall, who won titles in 2016, 2017, and 2018, completed the beaver-trick by reaching the finish line in 50 minutes -11.70 seconds.

Mc Dowall thus stopped Kenyan Veronica Jepkoskei from making her debut run in the event, a successful one.

Jepkoskei, who defeated Mc Dowall in the UWI SPEC half–marathon and the South America 10K in Guyana, two months ago, had to settle for the second place. Her time was 52 minutes-24.40 seconds.

Thus, Mc Dowall collected the US$1,300 first prize, while Jepkoskei earned herself $700.

Kenisha Pascal of Grenada and Odesha Nanton of IT- DAT Academy, rounded off the third and fourth places, respectively.

Pascal got the $500 cash award and Nanton, $250.

On the male side, though, Kenyan Alex Ekesa stopped Vincentian Junior Ashton from making it four in a row.

Akesa, in his first time at the event, was first to cross the finish line in 39 minutes-43.20 seconds, as he claimed the US$1,300 prize money. Akesa got an additional $100 for being the first athlete to cross the 5K mark.

Ashton, who topped the event from 2016 to last year, was second in 40 minutes-04.50 seconds, to pocket $700.

Taking the third olace and $500, was Josnel Ashton of Chatoyer in 45 minutes-07.60 seconds. In fourth place was IT- DAT Academy’s Markie Edwards and fifth was Livron Thomas of Grenada.

Edwards got $250 and Thomas, $100.

to their senior team’s promising effort.

Girls’ High School sped to a 7-5 lead at the first quarter whistle and was still in the ascendancy 15-13, at the half-way stage of the final.

After a change of lead during the third quarter, Troumaca Ontario took charge to finish the quarter 23-19, in the lead.

But there was no coming back for Girls’ High School, as Troumaca Ontario won 32-21.

Denel Creese made good 17 of her 21 attempts and Zanique Vincent scored 15 of her 29, to account for Troumaca Ontario’s tally.

Julicia Matthews registered 8 of her 11 tries and Milicia Quashie had 13 of her 18 tries recorded.

Third Places

Taking the third spot in the primary schools’ bracket was Fitz Hughes Government, who beat neighbours Chateabelair Methodist 14-12.

In the junior division of the secondary schools, North Union had the better of the Bethel High School, 25-23, while Mountain View Academy took the third spot in the seniors, pipping Georgetown Secondary, 19-18.

The stand=out performers of the netball competition, will be rewarded as a joint presentation ceremony is planned to coincide with the finals of the secondary schools’ football competition.
The ceremony takes place this Sunday, December 1, at the Victoria Park.
