Windward Volcanoes lose second straight match at Arnos Vale

The Windward Islands Volcanoes lost their second match in row at the Arnos Vale venue, beaten by Trinidad and Tobago Red Force by 191 on Sunday, in the WICB Regional four-day cricket tournament.

Set 352 to win, Volcanoes folded on 161, undone by the spin duo of Imran Khan with 5 for 65 and Bryan Charles, 5 for 72.

Denis Smith (42), was Volcanoes’ topscorer.

When the match began on Thursday, the Red Force rallied to 307 all out.

Khary Pierre stroked 106 not out, Imran Khan, 71 and Yannick Cariah, 36.

Bowling for Volcanoes, Sherman Lewis had 7 for 76.

In response, Volcanoes caved in for 200, with Roland Cato scoring 46 and Sunil Ambris, 43.

Imran Khan was the pick of Red Force’s bowling, taking 5 for 54, while Bryan Charles took 2 for 44 and Pierre, 2 for 48.

Batting a second time, Red Force declared at 244 for 8. Denesh Ramdin made 57 not out, Tion Webster, 43 and Imran Khan, 34.

Kavem Hodge scalped 6 for 68.

At the Providence Stadium in Guyana, Guyana Jaguars beat Barbados Pride by seven wickets, with a day to spare.

Batting first, Pride was dismissed for 76. Raymon Reifer took 5 for 20 and Christopher Barnwell, 2 for 26.

Jaguars in reply, made 201. Raymon Reifer led with 52 and Vishual Singh, 33.

Jonathan Carter grabbed 4 for 52, Miguel Cummins, 2 for 51 and Marquino Mindley, 2 for 35.

Pride’s second innings ended at 238. The topscorer was Shayne Moseley, with 64. Carter stroked 47, Shamarrh Brooks, 44 and Tevyn Walcott, 33.

Reifer, again in the thick of things, snared 4 for 22 and Vereesammy Permaul took 4 for 62.

Requiring 114 to win, Jaguars reached 118 for 3, with Chandrapual Hemraj scoring 57.

Meanwhile, Shamar Springer took all three wickets to fall for 29 runs.  

And, at the Sabina Park in Jamaica, Leeward Islands Hurricanes beat the Jamaica Scorpions by 134 runs within three days also.

Hurricanes made 210 in their first innings. Devon Thomas scored 65, Jahmah Hamilton, 43 and Montcin Hodge, 35.

Bowling for Scorpions Nikita Miller got 7 for 50 and Alwyn Williams, 2 for 28.

Scorpions closed their innings at 250, with Brandon King making 95 and Jermaine Blackkwood, 45 and Paul Palmer, 34.

Rahkeem Cornwall took 6 for 57 and Sheeno Berridge, 2 for 59.

Hurricanes then posted 312 in their second knock. Keacy Carty scored 68, Devon Thomas, 65, Kieran Powell, 54 and Rahkeem Cornwall, 52.

It was again Miller time with the ball, as he had 4 for 95, Gordon Bryan, 3 for 65 and Akim Frazer, 3 for 82.

Set 273 to win, Scorpions were dismissed for 138, with Brandon King scoring 31.

Sheeno Berridge had 4 for 40, Terrance Warde, 2 for 2, Damion Jacobs, 2 for 22 and Rahkeem Cornwall, 2 for 32.

The penultimate round bowls off from Thursday. Volcanoes are away to Hurricanes at North Sound in Antigua, Scorpions host the Pride at Sabina and the Jaguars take on Red Force at Providence, in a day/night match.
