Volcanoes fail to hurt  Barbados Pride

The Windward Islands Volcanoes failed to again to get an outright win, when last Sunday, they fell to the Barbados Pride by 23 runs in the eighth round of matches of the 2018/2019 WICB Professional Cricket League’s Regional 4 day tournament.

In a keenly contested encounter dominated by bowlers, the Volcanoes were set 280 to win, but their lower order again imploded, to be dismissed for 246.

Kavem Hodge, who made 66, Sunil Ambris, 40, Alick Athanaze, 33, and Roland Cato, 31, were the main run-getters.

For Barbados Pride, Miguel Cummins had 4 for 53, Jomel Warrican, 3 for 88 and Chaim Holder, 2 for 64, and ensured that the Volcanoes did not register a second win against them in the tournament.
When the match made 66 and Jonathan Carter, 42.

For the Volcanoes, Larry Edward had 3 for 29, Josh Thomas, 3 for 85 and Sherman Lewis, 2 for 40.

Windward Islands Volcanoes response was 138. Kimani Melius, in his debut first class match, scored 50, while Jomel Warrican captured 8 for 45 and Chaim Holder had 2 for 31.

Barbados Pride in their second innings scored 192, with Shayne Moseley scoring 53.

Ray Jordan, who had 3 for 21, Alick Athanaze, 3 for 37 and Larry Edward, 2 for 56, were the Volcanoes most successful bowlers.

The Volcanoes can redeem themselves when they meet Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, also at the Arnos Vale venue, from this Thursday.

At the Sabina Park in Jamaica, the Jamaica Scorpions beat the Guyana Jaguars by eight wickets, within two days.

The Jaguars in their first innings, made 158 with Anthony Bramble scoring 36.

Bowling for the Scorpions, debutant Amir Frazer bagged 4 for 69, Jerome Taylor, 3 for 24 and Derval Green, 2 for 31.

The Scorpions made 139 for 9 in reply. Asad Fudadin scored 43 and Derval Green, 40.

Clinton Presano took 4 for 31 and Romario Shepherd, 3 for 30.

In their second innings, the Jaguars made 138.  Anthony Bramble scoring 34 and Leon Johnson, 31.

Taylor and Frazier, were again among the wickets, taking 4 for 26 and 4 for 65, respectively. Derval Green got 2 for 31.

Set 158 to win, Scorpions, led by an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 153 between Jermaine Blackwood (72 not out) and Brandon King (66 not out), the host won comfortably.

And, at Warner Park in St Kitts, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes and the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, played to a draw.

The Hurricane made 365. Terrance Ward scored 83, Jahmah Hamilton struck 68, Devon Thomas, 67, Rahkeem Cornwall, 62 and Keacy Carty, 44.

Khary Pierre took 4 for 110, Yannick Cariah, 3 for 25 and Daniel St Clair, 2 for 2.

Red Force in response, made 329 all out. Imran Khan scored 86, Jason Mohammed, 60, Jeremy Solozano, 42 and Odean Smith, 36.

For the Hurricanes, Rahkeem Cornwall, 3 for 86 and Alzarri Joseph, 3 for 88.

Devon Thomas, with 94, Jahmah Hamilton, 77, Montcin Hodge, 57 and Kieran Powell, 39, powered the Hurricanes to 315 for 6 declared. Anderson Phillip and Odean Smith, had two wickets each.

Set 352 to win, the Red Force reached 236 for 4 at the close; Joshua Da Silva scored 75, Lendl Simmons, 59, and Jeremy Solozano, 30. Cornwall took 2 for 57.

The Hurricanes will be in action from this Thursday, when they meet the Scorpions at Sabina Park and the Jaguars will host the Barbados Pride at Providence.
