Ottley Hall man shot by Police claims he was fleeing gunmen
A 40-year-old Ottley Hall man who was shot by police early Monday morning, September 14, 2026 reportedly told people close to him that he ran from officers because he believed they were the gunmen who had earlier tried to kill him.
Ivan Guy, also known as Ivan Ragguette, is said to have been pursued by assailants who allegedly followed him in a vehicle with one of them firing shots at him at about 2:30 a.m. Monday.
Reports are that Guy ran from the area and jumped over an embankment. When police officers, responding to reports of gunfire arrived and attempted to assist him, they reportedly shouted “police.”
However, Guy is said to have told people close to him that he did not believe the men were police officers and continued running, after which he was shot while carrying an axe.
According to reports, Guy explained that his reaction was influenced by previous incidents in which gunmen allegedly dressed in dark clothing resembling police attire shouted “police” before attacking their victims. He is said to have referred specifically to a deadly incident in the Chinatown area on Friday night July 17, 2026 in which three men were killed by gunmen reportedly dressed in dark clothing and what some witnesses described as body armour.
