‘Town Board’ pauses move to put vendors back in Market

The Kingstown Town Board has paused its decision to remove vendors on the streets of capital, Kingstown, but will engage in consultations with stakeholders towards finding a long-term solution.

This marks a complete turn around by the Board which, on September 10, 2026, issues a notice to vendors that required them to be off the streets effective Saturday, September 12, 2026.

That notice stated: “Vending will no longer be permitted on Bedford Street, Bay Street, and surrounding areas, including the side walks”.

In addition, the notice pointed out that the move was part of “ongoing efforts to maintain a clean, safe orderly and accessible Kingstown”.

A subsequent public notice from the Board, dated September 11, 2026, stated: “The Kingstown Town Board has heard the concerns and representations raised by stakeholders, following the recent notice regarding vending along Bedford Street, Bay Street and surrounding areas. Having considered these representations, the Board advises that implementation of the measures scheduled to take effect on Saturday, September 12, 2026, will be stayed until further notice to allow further consultation and engagement with affected stakeholders”.
